(WJAR) — A local medium has come up with a unique way to connect people with loved ones who have died to lift people’s spirits during a rather dark time.
Steven Macek of Massachusetts is a children’s lawyer by day and a psychic medium by night.
Before COVID-19, he held large "readings" at venues where dozens of people gathered in hopes of hearing from loved ones who have passed away.
Since COVID-19, he’s been giving readings virtually.
“What I’m able to give people is the most incredible thing. That’s what it’s all about, giving messages and giving validations, healing, for the people that I’m reading,” said Macek. “Their loved ones. They speak to me and I just relay the messages. That’s how it works.”
Over the past seven years, Macek said he’s reached hundreds, if not thousands, of people from all over who hope to channel their loved ones.
He said his services have been especially popular this year.
“COVID has opened up people’s minds and I think it’s definitely more emotional because a lot of people are sad and down,” he said. “So, I wanted to do something really special for people and something fun because 2020 has been so horrific. So, I started doing the notes in a bottle.”
A few months ago, Macek said he started Notes in a Bottle.
It’s sort of like a scavenger hunt. He began hiding bottles, with a message in them, all over southern New England.
The message, lets the person who found the bottle know they’ve received a free reading with him.
“The element of it being a scavenger hunt, people are so excited that when they hear there’s been a note somewhere,” said Macek. “I give some hints on Facebook, Instagram as to where they would be and people love running out and finding them.”
Macek said he doesn’t hide the bottles in hard to find places.
“I try to find places where there’s clearly going to be people walking where they will find them,” he said. “I always tell people there are no coincidences, there are no mistakes. If you’re walking and you don’t normally walk a particular path your loved ones are going to say, ‘Take a right.’ You’re going to take a right and you’ll see the bottle and that’s how it works, you find it.”
Macek said the feedback and excitement surrounding his scavenger hunt has been remarkable.
“After they go through the reading and I get to see their emotions and they know their loved ones are actually here, they’re not in the physical world anymore but they’re actually here, that’s really what it’s all about,” he said. “They’re so grateful for the opportunity and its truly rewarding.”
Macek said he plans to continue to hide the bottles in places. He will post clues on his social media pages: Facebook and Instagram.
